This index ranks statements, not people. We track the factual accuracy of public claims made by UK politicians, activists, and media figures.

How Rankings Work:
People are ranked by their total number of verified false claims. Someone with 50 false claims ranks higher than someone with 10 false claims, regardless of percentages. This reflects the total volume of misinformation spread.

What We Check:
We prioritize fact-checking based on (1) reach - how many people saw the claim, (2) public interest - major policy statements, and (3) verifiability - claims we can check with evidence. All fact-checks are linked and backed by official sources.

Why This Ranking Method:
Total false claims reflects real-world harm. Someone who makes 50 false public statements spreads more misinformation than someone who makes 5, regardless of their accuracy percentage. If someone appears frequently on this index, it's because they frequently make false public statements - not because we target them.

Important: This ranking reflects only the accuracy of public statements we've fact-checked, not overall character, intent, or private beliefs. Sample sizes vary—see individual profiles for full context. All rankings are based on objectively verifiable claims backed by evidence.
